Sharing our daily bread, Covenant World Relief

Sudan Agriculture Project:

The Covenant World Relief Sudan Agriculture Project in Malakal in Southern Sudan has been supported in its entirety by donation from our congregation. Through the CWR agriculture project we have provided seed farm equipment and training to members of the participating Covent congregations, most returning in recent years from refugee camps. The project has been quite successful, becoming nearly self sustaining. Produce from their fields has even been distributed to other villages during times of flooding. We are currently financially supporting them in the purchase of agriculture land from the government.

This year there has been a severe drought. Last month CWR sent $5,000 to the Covenant Church of South Sudan for emergency food assistance and is raising another $33,000 to assist 70,000 people who are starving due to the drought and continued violence in the area. Thousands of families are reduced to eating one meal every two to three days, according to the United nations, which estimates 1.5 million people are facing severe food insecurity. The Covenant commitment to South Sudan is crucial as other relief agencies have left the area. Our donations over the next few months will also be going towards drought relief for the affected families in the area and the South Sudan church will be delivering the food to those who are starving.

1 John 3:17 - 18, "How does God's love abide in anyone who has the world's goods and sees a brother or sister in need and yet refuses to help? Little children, let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action."

YOU CAN HELP
:

If you are interested in participating, simply write the word "hunger" on the back of the welcome card in the bulletin. Any checks should be made out to Community Covenant Church, designated CCC World Hunger Project and placed in the offering. On the second Sunday of each month, a time will be set aside for prayer and accepting donations to help our brothers and sisters who are hungry around the world.

At CCC we envision a threefold process:

1. Regular prayer both individual and congregational

2. Fasting on an individual basis as a symbolic way of acknowledging world hunger

3. Donations, perhaps of an equal amount spent on pet food or a meal in a restaurant

We hope you will prayerfully consider participating in one or all three parts of this project. If so please write "Hunger" on the back of the welcome card in your bulletin and place it in the offering plate.

Jesus says to us" For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink." Matthew 25:35. Hunger is a world--wide, year round problem.
